Want to start an Amazon FBA business but don’t know where to start? An even bigger question is, how do you find and verify potential products to sell? In this article, I will be showing you a few powerful hacks to do Amazon Product research.

Introduction

Building your brand and growing it in the online business sphere definitely has many perks. When you own an online business, you also own all digital investments that come with it. If you’re looking into other bigger eCommerce opportunities, you should consider Amazon FBA. done for you system Amazon program

As a business model, Amazon FBA is one of the most reliable online businesses you can start. Even if you spend months or even years learning how to start or grow your online business, launching your first products is definitely worth the time and effort you’ll ever spend.

But as the Amazon market gets saturated, it’s only natural that the amazon ppc agency competition also gets more intense. With the thousands of products available today on Amazon, you’ll need to find a product that you can easily sell. You ask questions like “Will people buy this?” or “How many competitors do I have just for this product?” and so on. There are many questions to answer and even more things to do before you could even list your first product on Amazon. And this is why you should be taking product research seriously.

According to full service amazon agency experts, product research is one crucial element in your success as a seller. An efficient product research method gives you the best chances of winning your place on Amazon with products that give you the highest sales. It gives you a boost or a headstart in the whole marketing process.

Now the question is, where do you even find potentially profitable products to sell? The answer might surprise you.

A powerful way to uncover winning opportunities that could skyrocket your sales through the roof is by doing your product research on Etsy.

What makes Etsy the perfect avenue for Amazon product research?

Etsy is an e-commerce platform that focuses on artsy products ranging from artisan items, vintage items, and handmade goods to art & craft supplies. Unlike Amazon, Etsy focuses on a few select product categories and niches, which guarantees that users are likely to be interested in what is being sold on the website. The Etsy marketplace is home to thousands of unique and creative niche products selling like hotcakes. Many of which are not often marketed on Amazon. With so many possibilities waiting to be discovered, it’s the perfect platform for finding new product ideas and trends that can help you launch products to sell on Amazon.

The Etsy method, as we like to call it, is a very powerful way to find and validate potential products to sell on Amazon.

Let’s dive into the whole process of doing product research via Etsy:

1. Brainstorming

There are several ways you can do to brainstorm for a potential niche or product. I recommend going through sites like Pinterest first before heading over to Etsy.

You can start by doing a Pinterest search about anything— from gifts for particular occasions to everyday items. At this point, you don’t have to think hard. You can spend around 10 to 20 minutes going over any product you find interesting. List them down so you can always go back to them later.

In this example, I started with something off the top of my head like “anxiety relief gifts.” Several scrolls and clicks later, I stumbled upon two or three exciting things on Etsy. One of them is this:

So what makes this product interesting? You can see here that the store has a relatively good sales rate and the product itself has a high number of positive reviews. It’s safe to say that there is a whole market for this product. The goal is to find trends or new ideas that could lead you to products already selling well on Etsy. Doing this gives you significant leverage in your product research because you focus on already popular products but still rare on Amazon.

Another effective way to brainstorm is by going straight to Etsy and doing your search there. A great thing about Etsy is that it shows you upfront helpful information such as the number of sales and each product’s popularity, and it even has a Bestsellers section. Going through the bestsellers section allows you to see what is selling big on the platform and trending among Etsy shoppers.

2. Validating the product

Verifying the product’s availability and demand on Amazon is the next step. Once you have a product in mind, you can then go to Amazon and do a quick search. Here, I used my main keyword: “gender reveal candle.”

As you can see, there are not a lot of results for this search term. On top of that, there is only one seller for gender reveal candles, and they’re not even the color-changing kind that we found on Etsy. The result is promising so far. Now that I’ve verified that this particular product is not available on Amazon, I can check if people are actively looking for products like this.

To validate this product’s demand, we need a couple of tools. I recommend using Helium 10 Magnet and the Helium 10 chrome extension Xray.

Magnet is a powerful tool for finding high-volume search terms which you can sort out using advanced filters. This tool helps you uncover the data you need when validating the success and relevancy of a keyword.

On the other hand, Xray is a Helium 10 Google Chrome extension that comes in handy when doing product research. This extension helps you instantly evaluate Amazon search results for new opportunities, forecast and calculate product sales, analyze the competition, and others.

Here’s the Xray result for the main keyword, “gender reveal candle.” You can see a significant monthly search volume for the product. The average search volume may not be that high, but the demand for this product is evident. Also, if you look at the search volume history chart, you can infer that it’s not just a seasonal item. The chart shows a relatively consistent product demand because people searched for the product all year round in the past two years on Amazon.

From my research, this niche product sure has a great opportunity of making it big on Amazon. With this kind of data, you can already start to foresee some things you’ll do to market the product. For instance, this product could use a better image gallery to stand out against the competitor. It’s also not a bad idea to sell it as a kit or gift box together with some other creative trinkets.

3. What to look for

Remember that your main goal is to find unique, one-of-a-kind products with high demand on Etsy but are not easily available on Amazon. Here are a few things you should remember when doing your product research:

  • Good sales value – As obvious as it is, a product of great value is where every seller usually starts
  • Profitable Niche –  Your products need to be quirky and unique. Avoid generic products since they won’t sell, at least not for you. With a niche product, you can target a group or market that isn’t particularly too big or small, but just the right size that can give you promising returns.
  • Good Competition – Being the only soldier on the battlefield won’t benefit you. Look for products with a healthy level of competition that you can manage. Raising visibility and awareness for a new niche product on a giant platform is costly and time-consuming. So pick a product that has a healthy level of competition. And instead of spending on ads, you can benefit from your competitors’ ads.
  • Easily Sourceable – Will you be able to find a good supplier? Are you going to rebrand, or will you be a 3rd party seller? Ensure that your products can be easily sourced from a reputable supplier with reasonable pricing to avoid future problems.

4. Things to stay away from

Avoid products like jewelry, handmade clothing, or fine art. These types of products usually go under a gated category, making them difficult to sell. Also, stay away from seasonal products. You’d like to find products with a relatively consistent demand all year round.

Final Thoughts

There’s no perfect method or formula when it comes to product research. And it won’t be every day that you’ll get great results. Sometimes you’ll find yourself hitting nothing but dead ends. And that’s okay. The idea is all about jumping from one idea to another, looking for new opportunities where you’re simply validating what you find instead of forcing it. The Etsy product research is just one of the many methods that can help you land potential products to sell on Amazon. However, there’s no denying how Etsy can become the ideal avenue for finding creative and highly profitable niches that you could never even imagine. Good luck!
