Putting an insert in your packaging with an incentive to scan QR code can be a great way to build your email list and get more reviews.
This has been working great for us. We include an insert card that prompts customers to scan a QR code. It’s been getting about a 3-5% scan rate, which is pretty good!
Why Use Insert Cards?
Main Benefits
- Email List Growth – one of the most important assets for a business!
- Reviews – Gets more Reviews
- Upsells – Easily broadcast Upsells later
- Messenger List – it builds your Messenger List; the ‘email list 2.0’
- Customer Service – makes it easy for people to start a chat with you.
What’s the best CTA?
- A veteran Amazon expert told me that ‘REGISTER YOUR WARRANTY’ is the highest converting Call To Action (CTA) that he has tested.
Can it be on the Packaging itself?
- Yes! As long as it’s clear.
- We put our CTA-QR on the actual packaging, along with the Instructions & FAQ, AND on a separate insert card – so they see it in 2 places.
- If there is no space on the packaging/box, print your CTA on the back of a large instructional card, like postcard size.
Overall, just make sure these things are clear somewhere:
- Instructions & FAQ
- CTA with QR code
One of my insert cards for a small product is the size of a standard business card and looks like this.
How to create a QR Code:–
- Sign up for Genius Link > Add a new link (your landing page URL for ManyChat flow starting URL – you can edit this any time) > click Edit > you should see a QR code > Click the QR code > Save image
- How to get a ManyChat flow starting URL > Sign up for ManyChat > New Growth Tool > Ref URL > copy URL
Why build a Messenger List?
It’s just like an email list! Once someone interacts with your FB Page Messenger, they’re automatically added to your Messenger list.
You can broadcast info & promotions to everyone at once just like email. E.g. it’s known as the ‘email list 2.0’.
- Update 2020: You can only send broadcasts to subscribers on Messenger who have interacted within 24 hours, or who have not received their 1 ‘post-purchase follow-up’ message.
- So basically, broadcasting is now limited. So be sure to capture their email address and do drip broadcasting thru email.
Very high open rates! Messenger has 80% open rates and 20% CTR (click-thru-rate) on average, compared to 20% and 2% for email!
This is a screenshot of one of my ManyChat flows:
- Insert Card CTA: “DON’T FORGET TO REGISTER YOUR WARRANTY!” [Scan here]
- Messenger Opens > Enter Email to confirm (it auto-populates to they just have to tap it)
- You’re required to include a note that this also confirms email list opt-in.
- “Thanks, you’re all set!”
- email is added to your MailChimp list
- “By the way, here are instructions & tips!”
- Send an infographic, video, gif etc.
- Also, as a big thank you, here’s a $5 off coupon for your first order on our website! [2 mins later, or up to you]
- 23 hours later: “Hey Julie! Just a kind 24-hour follow up to make sure everything’s good!”
- Auto replies:
- All good! ✅
- LOVING IT! 😍
- Auto-reply: ‘Awesome! Glad to hear! What are you loving about it so far, Julie? Would love to hear your feedback!’
- → ‘Awesome, thanks! Hey would you mind helping us out by posting that as an Amazon review? (totally not required.. but helpful if you have a sec!)
- → Thanks! Just tap this link to leave your review. Thanks again so much for your support! Let me know if it works!
- Report issue/help
- Auto replies:
- One-Time-Notifications: Ask them to click Notify Me to get notified of something in the future. Deals, in-stock dates, launches, etc.
- Satisfaction Follow-Up: I ask them to click this so we can follow-up in 2 weeks to make sure things are good
- Special Deals: I ask them to click if they’d like to be notified when we run special deals
- I also set up a Day 7-14-30 ‘email message’ follow up flow via ManyChat.
- This is just like building a messenger flow, except it sends the messages to their email.
- You can send unlimited follow-up email messages, any time.
- You can also send unlimited broadcast email messages to ALL people who gave their email in ManyChat, anytime.
- I decided to send my email follow-up thru ManyChat just because it’s simple to set up, and all in one place.
- Alternatively set up this email follow-up drip inside MailChimp (or whoever you use) instead. Or, in addition to this, if you wanna send two different email drip campaigns if you think it won’t be too annoying.
- In my MailChimp, they are delivered a welcome email, plus any customer nurturing sequence you wanna set up.
