“Hey Riley! What’s the deal with Amazon Brand Registry!?”
Hey guys! So getting your brand officially ‘registered’ with Amazon has been a part of the Amazon selling process for a while now. This post will explain everything you need to know and the registration options – including the new hack to get approved in just 2 weeks instead of 6 months!
Amazon requires you to get your brand officially registered to get some important features, most importantly, A+ content on your listing, and a video in your gallery.
To sign up, basically, you just need a trademarked brand name, which takes 6-9 months to get approved for in the US (Update: or use the IP Accelerator to get approved in 2 weeks).
What you Get from Amazon
A+ Content (more images & text)
A video in your gallery
A brand storefront (amazon.com/yourbrand)
Additional search & reporting tools
More info: https://brandservices.amazon.com/
Additional Benefits
Protects against Hijackers & Counterfeits
Nobody else can sell your brand
Protects your brand’s Intellectual Property (IP)
You can register multiple brands

Requirements
A Trademarked brand name (you need to provide the trademark registration number)
A photo of the logo on the product and/or packaging
Link to your brand website
I recommend creating a quick Shopify site – their templates are easy.
Brand Registry Short Cut: Get it in 2 weeks instead of 6 months.
New June 2020: Amazon IP Accelerator
Basically, now you can pay around $875 to get Brand Registry approval within 2 weeks, while your trademark is still pending
Amazon has partnered with some law firms that handle it.
A friend went with IdeaLegal and paid $875 total for everything and got approved for BR in 2 weeks!

DIY Option: US Application Steps
First, decide on your brand name (have your product chosen first)
Apply to trademark your brand name at https://www.uspto.gov/trademarks-application-process/filing-online
Or in your home country if applicable (see countries below)
The filing fee is $225
Follow the instructions for choosing your category, etc.
Wait 6-12 months for approval!
Fill out the simple Amazon Brand Registry application here http://brandregistry.amazon.com/
Step 1: enter your brand name
Step 2: enter the Trademark registration number
Attach a photo of your packaging or product with must contain your brand name and logo.
Link your brand website
Wait for Amazon to approve you!
If everything checks out, this should take a matter of days.
UK Trademark DIY option: Get approved in 4 Months
UK trademarks take only 4 months on average, quicker than 6-9 months in the US
Apply for a UK trademark here https://www.gov.uk/how-to-register-a-trade-mark/apply
First, verify that the trademark name is not taken in your category here
They claim approval typically takes only 4 months if there are no objections
The filing fee is 200GBP
UK trademarks work fine, even if you’re a US person or company

Your brand name trademark can be registered in any of these major countries.

How to get videos on your listing before being Brand Registered
Note on video on your listing: In the meantime, you can upload a video in the ‘Videos’ section, above the reviews section. Just click ‘Upload Your Video’ and upload your product video!

How to create a Brand Website
I use Shopify for my brand site and so do most online sellers because it’s the top eCommerce website platform and the easiest to use. Just add the basics for a 1-page site. It’s only $29/mo. You should have a basic website anyway for shoppers to verify that you’re a legit company.
Go to Shopify.com and sign up
Choose a domain name with Shopify (easiest option)
Choose a simple free template that you like
Upload
Brand logo
Product photos
About/Contact Us section/page
You can keep it as a simple 1-page site for BR approval.
Quick note: When you create the Product pages, make it clear that the product is available exclusively on Amazon and include a clear link to go Buy On Amazon. (Make sure inside Shopify the product is out of stock / not available – until down the line when you want to take orders thru your site).
Summary
Overall, Brand Registry is a necessary part of selling on Amazon. If I were to create a new brand right now, I’d totally pay the $875 for the IP Accelerator program and get approved in 2 weeks! Being able to have a video in your gallery and A+ content on your listing has shown to increase CVR by at least a few % so it will pay for itself with the extra sales!
